2019 Los Angeles Top 25 Football Student Section Rankings

The student section game has improved drastically and some Los Angeles Student Sections finally took notice to the competition.

While we moved from a Top 20 Ranking to a Top 25 Ranking list, we added five new student sections to the list, but three more student sections make the list this year after missing out last year.

The student section game was strong this year that we have to recognize five other student sections that barely missed the cut. Student Sections like the Warren Cave of Downey, Royal Kingdom of Simi Valley, Grace Brethren of Simi Valley Red Zone, Saugus Blue Crew, and the Newbury Park Panther Pit were noticed and it hurts to not add them on the Top 25.

What helped in making the Top 25 this year is Social Media. What might be a must for the Student Section game to work is promoting your school spirit every week on social media. Consistency is key and so is being positive and being smart. Avoiding a chant or putting up a sign that could be offensive that could hurt your student section, your school and community is a must. Luckily, we didn’t see much of that this year.

Most of these student sections rocked the social media game and we expect more student sections to market themselves in the future. Let’s reward these student sections and name a new Los Angeles Football Student Section of the Year.

THE 2019 LOS ANGELES FOOTBALL STUDENT SECTION TOP 25 RANKINGS

1. Valencia Viking Nation (Last Year: 7th)

I’ve seen this student section a few times in the past and it was always a smaller student section, Loud, but smaller than usual. This year was different. Viking Nation packed the stands and rocked it this season. Even some celebrities like NFL legend Tony Gonzalez and Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos showing up to a game. If you can get Bezos to invest in SoCal Student Sections, that would be great. Anyway, Viking Nation improved a lot of and exceeded expectations and for that, the Valencia Viking Nation is the 2019 Los Angeles Football Student Section of the Year!

“We are very honored to have received this recognition.,” Viking Nation said in a statement. “Everybody at Valencia is extremely spirited and bleeds purple and gold. We have the best students that make our student section the greatest. Everyone from the VNat leaders, to ASB, to the student body that put in a lot of work to make VNat the best. We can’t wait to show more Viking Nation during basketball games this season, but for now we are happy to be recognized as the best!”

2. Bishop Amat of La Puente of Dawgpound (Last Year: 1st)

The Dawgpound is back at the top of the list and for good reason. This is a dynasty of a student section every football year. The Dawgpound is a crazy student section and you never know what they plan to pull off. The streamers are the lightest thing they have done. The Dawgpound can go pretty crazy on everyone and they show it off online. When you have a football program that is up there with the best every year, you have to duplicate that in the stands.

“Dawgpound this year has been the best we’ve seen in the past years,” the Dawgpound said. “Thank you to all the students for coming out and showing constant school spirit. We are ready for basketball season!”

3. St. John Bosco of Bellflower Tribe (Last Year: 4th)

The Tribe enjoyed another fantastic season and showed it with a list of crazy antics. The Braves loved their student section and both got to enjoy the moment on Saturday in a comeback victory over Mater Dei of Santa Ana. The Tribe jumped out of the stands to celebrate. This crazy student section capped off another crazy year.

4. Chaminade of West Hills Cage (Last Year: 3rd)

This student section is as crazy as their blue football field. The Cage enjoyed the season which included a trip to the CIF-SS Division II Finals. Craziness in the stands and apparently in the parking lot with some tables that didn’t ask to be broken. Leave that to the Buffalo Bills fans!

“We are the bills mafia of high school student sections,” The Cage said. “We average three tables a game.”

5. South Hills of West Covina Dawgpound (Last Year: 2nd)

The Week 8 SoCal Student Section of the Week Champs showed off once again, especially when they became the Kings of Cameron in a victory over West Covina. I checked out this student section and they are a rowdy and crazy group of kids. Another fantastic season for the Dawgpound!

“South Hills was extremely proud of our football Dawg Pound this year,” the Dawgpound said in a statement. “We were honored to win Section of the Week and have So Cal Student Sections visit us. Thank you to everyone who came out this season and be ready for us to bring it even bigger and better next year!”

6. Hart of Newhall Tribe (Last Year: Not Ranked)

The Tribe brought their A game in the stands and on social media. No need to check them out in person when they show it off. A fantastic showing from the Indians this season, which was duplicated from the Tribe!

7. Crespi of Encino Cabana (Last Year: Not Ranked)

The Cabana didn’t make the cut last year, but they showed off just a little this year on social media and with a Celts team that made it to the semifinals. Attraction brings a crowd in and the Cabana showed up this season.

8. Oaks Christian of Westlake Village Lions Den (Last Year: 11th)

The Lions Den from what I know is a loud and large crowd and this season is no different with the Lions needed all the help they can get for a boost. The Den never disappoints. Hopefully, we can see more of them on social media.

9. Notre Dame of Sherman Oaks Castle (Last Year: 8th)

This student section ruled the Castle and have endless memories in legendary coach Kevin Rooney final season.

10. West Ranch of Valencia Pack or “The District” (Last Year: 16th)

One of the four Los Angeles Student Sections to win the SoCal Student Section of the Week title, the Pack, which was called ‘The District’ when the Santa Clarita community united as one where all six student sections from the Hart District after the tragic school shooting at Saugus High School last month where three students were killed. It was an amazing way to united the community as one. What West Ranch did was give us hope for humanity! #SaugusStrong

11. West Covina Bulldog Nation (Last Year: Not Ranked)

Bulldog Nation crashed the student section party. Despite a tough year for the Bulldogs, the Bulldog Nation kept going wild the entire year. The stands were packed and the cheers never ending. The social media marketing is exactly what is needed if student section contests like the rankings can be successful. The Bulldog Nation gets it, but more importantly, Bulldog Nation loves West Covina. Well done!

12. La Serna of Whittier Kingdom (Last Year: 14th)

I got the opportunity to checkout the Kingdom at the CIF-SS Division VI Finals and the chants, cheers and screams were non-stop. From the leaders, to the lightsabers, this student section knows how to bring it!

13. Palos Verdes of Palos Verdes Estates Red Tide (Last Year: Not Ranked)

The Red Tide showed off their school spirit and for that, they make the Top 25. The Bay League Champs enjoyed the rowdy Tide i’m sure. Well done Tide.

14. Palmdale Falcon Nation (Last Year: Not Ranked)

Falcon Nation is a rowdy group and with a Golden League Champion on the field, you get the opportunity to get rowdy. Falcon Nation knows how to market themselves and showed off their fantastic student section this season.

15. Alemany of Mission Hills Warzone (Last Year: 5th)

We know the Warzone exist, but it’s tough to defend them with no proof, but I know they are there and they should be in the stands with another fantastic Warriors team on the field.

16. St. Bonaventure of Ventura Gates of Heaven (Last Year: 9th)

The Gates of Heaven showed up and showed some proof of that. A clever name for a student section, this student section showed their love for their team this season.

17. Oxnard 12th Man (Last Year: 12th)

The 12th Man had another electric year in the stands, including the Battle on Gonzales Street where the Yellowjackets took the victory over Pacifica of Oxnard. One of the most savage rivalries based off of the signs Oxnard rocks.

18. Pacifica of Oxnard The Big Kahuna (Last Year: Not Ranked)

I saw the Big Kahuna at the CIF-SS Division VI Finals. They traveled from Oxnard to Whitter and were electric for a road warrior! I can’t imagine how they are at home. Hopefully we see them market themselves on social media so we can see how savage they are with opponent. Well done Big Kahuna, awesome name by the way!

19. Birmingham of Lake Balboa Patriot Pack (Last Year: Not Ranked)

The Patriot Pack can take this title, CIF-LA City Section Football Student Section of the Year. Not as good as the Patriots taking the CIF-LACS Open Division, but the Pack doesn’t mind. This is crazy and an electric group.

20. Los Altos of Hacienda Heights Conqueror Crazies (Last Year: 6th)

The Crazies weren’t as crazy on social media as they were last year, but they were still seen and we’re still just as crazy! Stay crazy Los Altos!

21. Crescenta Valley of La Crescenta Falcon Fanatics (Last Year: Not Ranked)

The Fanatics are a very weird bunch and more so when the product on the field is perfect! Who turns the Y-M-C-A chant to a C-V-H-S chant? These kids do! Well played!

22. Loyola of Los Angeles Pride (Last Year: Not Ranked)

The Pride makes it to the list this year after missing the cut last year. The Pride enjoyed a very much improved year from their Cubs. The Pride shows up, but hopefully their marketing game does the same next season.

23. St. Francis of La Canada Dungeon (Last Year: 10th)

The Dungeon is loud and crazy student section. More so when you have the Angelus League Champs. Some more work in the social media department will move the Dungeon back up where they belong.

24. Camarillo Scorpion Cyclone (Last Year: 17th)

The Cyclone enjoyed another season from their Scorpions and the Scorpions enjoyed the craziness that ensued in the stands. Hopefully we see them in the social media game.

 25. Highland of Palmdale Dawgpound (Last Year: 18th)

The Dawgpound brought it back and are back in the Top 25 this year. When you have a CIF-SS Champion on the field, you’re going to show up and support.
