Manny’s World: CIF State Finals Football Picks

The last week of picks are here. We took a week off with the exception of No. 1 Mater Dei of Santa Ana 35-21 victory over De La Salle of Concord. I promise, I picked Mater Dei to win that despite not posting it. I’m going to count it with my record from two weeks ago. I highly doubt anyone will care, but I have to be honest.

Let’s see the final picks of the year.

MANNY’S CIF STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS PICKS

Last Week’s Record: 9-4

Overall Record: 227-88-2

DIVISION 1-AA

No. 5 Cathedral Catholic of San Diego (12-1) vs. Folsom (13-1) at Cerritos College of Norwalk, Friday, 8pm

Manny’s Pick: Folsom

The Dons face an offense that scored 84 points in the CIF NorCal Regionals. LB Jordan Allen and his defense will have a tough time with QB Kaiden Bennett and the Folsom offense. They won’t score 84 points, but the Bulldogs will take the CIF State Title.

DIVISION 1-A

No. 9 Sierra Canyon of Chatsworth (12-3) vs. Liberty of Brentwood (12-1) at Cerritos College of Norwalk, Saturday, 8pm

Manny’s Pick: Sierra Canyon

The Trailblazers face a team that is equally matched. RB EJ Gable will look to sneak the Sierra Canyon offense past the offense of the Lions, led by QB Jay Butterfield. SS JD Hernandez will stop the Liberty offense and give Sierra Canyon a CIF State Title.

DIVISION 2-AA

No. 8 Grace Brethren of Simi Valley (13-2) vs. Del Oro of Loomis (13-1) at Cerritos College of Norwalk, Friday, 4pm

Manny’s Pick: Grace Brethren

The Lancers are going to RB Lontrelle Diggs one last time, but he’ll have to avoid LB Charlie Rogers and the Del Oro defense. LB Josh Henderson will provide plenty of defense for Grace Brethren as they take the CIF State Title.

DIVISION 2-A

No. 18 Lawndale (13-2) vs. San Joaquin Memorial of Fresno (14-0) at Cerritos College of Norwalk, Saturday, 4pm

Manny’s Pick: Lawndale

Panthers QB Alec Trujillo will look to avoid LB Keenan Fyles and the Lawndale defense, but RB Jordan Wilmore will be too much for San Joaquin Memorial. The Cardinals take the State Title.

DIVISION 3-AA

No. 19 Lincoln of San Diego (11-4) vs. Menlo-Atherton of Atherton (12-2) at Sequoia of Redwood City, Saturday, 6pm

Manny’s Pick: Lincoln

Lincoln RB Carlito Nothaft will look to outrun LB Daniel Heimuli and the Bears defense. While Nothraft does that, LB T’ray Kirkland will lead the Hornets defense to victory. Lincoln takes the State Title.

DIVISION 3-A

Kaiser of Fontana (14-1) at Wilcox of Santa Clara (13-1), Friday, 6pm

Manny’s Pick: Wilcox

The Chargers have a tough task of stopping RB Christian Hunter. If they can stop Hunter and RB Paul Rosa has a big game against the Kaiser defense, then Wilcox should take the State title at home.

DIVISION 4-A

Garfield of Los Angeles (13-1) at McClymonds of Oakland (11-2), Saturday, 6pm

Manny’s Pick: McClymonds

McClymonds has been here before and has played a tougher schedule this season.

LB JaVanz Dornners will look to stop Garfield RB Peter Garcia. McClymonds takes the CIF State Title.

DIVISION 5-AA

San Gorgonio of San Bernardino (12-3) at Rio Linda (12-2), Saturday, 6pm

Manny’s Pick: Rio Vista

Knights RB Cameron Skattebo  will have a battle with San Gorgonio RB Elijah Hall, but Rio Linda will be too much. Rio Linda takes State.

DIVISION 5-A

San Diego (12-1) at Colfax (13-0), Saturday, 6pm

Manny’s Pick: Colfax

I have to go with QB Alex Weir and the Colfax offense over RB Mo Jackson and the Cavers offense. The Falcons are the kings of California.

DIVISION 6-A

Orange Glen of Escondido (9-3) vs. Lincoln of San Francisco (12-0) at City College of San Francisco, Saturday, 12pm

Manny’s Pick: Lincoln

This is going to be a battle on the ground with Mustangs RB Desean Crawford taking on Orange Glen RB Cael Patterson. Lincoln gets the edge and the State Title.
