Manny’s World: Top 20 Football Rankings (8/16/18)

Hello to my World.

For the last few years, I have been covering sports for So Cal Sidelines, which covers sports all over Southern California. I loved covering sports and money was never an issue, I did it because I have a love for high school sports, a passion for it. I do still cover high school sports, but not as much as I used to.

Of course, we will cover the best student sections, but we will also talk sports and with football underway, I figured I give everyone my Top 20 rankings from the four SoCal regions and of course my SoCal Top 20 Rankings.

MANNY’S SO CAL TOP 20 FOOTBALL RANKINGS

  1. St. John Bosco of Bellflower (Trinity)

DJ Uiagalelei is back at QB for Bosco and with Chris Steele at DB, Bosco will get back on top in a always loaded Trinity League.

  1. Mater Dei of Santa Ana (Trinity)

Bryce Young comes in from Cathedral of Los Angeles to take over JT Daniels old spot. Maybe that might be the same scenario when Young shows up to USC. This team reloaded on transfers like LB Kobah Fuamatu from La Habra and Sean Dollars from Rancho Cucamonga.

  1. Orange Lutheran (Trinity)

I’m so excited to see what South Carolina-commit Ryan Hilinski can do at QB, especially with Kyle Ford and Jojo Hawkins at WR.

  1. Mission Viejo (South Coast)

The Bob Johnson era is over, but the Chad Johnson era begins. Arizona State-commit Joey Yellen returns at QB and he’ll have RB combo Akili Arnold and Jamari Forrest behind him.

  1. Narbonne of Harbor City (Marine)

No one will ever stop Narbonne in the City Section, especially their secondary.

  1. Oaks Christian of Westlake Village (Marmonte)

The defending CIF-SS Division II Champs return Keyvon Thibodeaux at DE and Zach Charbonnet at RB. That makes things easier for first year coach Charlie Collins.

  1. Cajon of San Bernardino (Citrus Belt)

Jayden Daniels is back at QB for Cajon and I’m sure WR Darren Jones is happy about that.

  1. Centennial of Corona (Big XIII)

Thomas Kinslow is back at RB and with Tanner McKee gone at QB, he will be used quite often.

  1. JSerra of San Juan Capistrano (Trinity)

This might be JSerra best team ever with Caden Bell at QB and Munir McClain and Tarik Lockett at WR.

  1. Upland (Baseline)

Taj Davis is back at WR for Upland and they look to have their season not end in heartbreak.

  1. Chaminade of West Hills (Mission)

LB/WR Blake Antzoulatos returns and so does QB Ryan Stevens.

  1. Serra of Gardena (Mission)

QB Doug Brumfield is back and will go solo after splitting playing time last season. Max Williams will provide help at WR.

  1. Madison of San Diego (Western)

RB Kenan Christon will lead the Warhawks as they are the top team in San Diego this season.

  1. Calabasas (Marmonte)

A majority of last year team returns. Jaden Casey is back at QB and his Coyotes get so much help from a coaching staff with tons of NFL experience.

  1. Long Beach Poly (Moore)

Poly gets a new coach in Stephen Barbee, who goes from St. Margaret’s of San Juan Capistrano to Long Beach Poly. Quite a change. He will have WR/DB duo Kejon and Keon Markham and will repeat as Moore League Champs.

  1. Helix of La Mesa (Grossmont-Hills)

The Scots lose their DB duo, but return RB Elelyon Noa. Helix will hope to stay the course after reaching the CIF State Finals last season.

  1. Corona del Mar of Newport Beach (Sunset)

CdM will no longer rule the Pacific Coast League as they move to  Sunset League. Like the PCL, they are favorites in the Sunset with WR John Humphreys back as well as QB Ethan Garbers, the younger brother of Chase Garbers that led CdM to the CIF-SS Final in 2016 and is now at Cal.

  1. Murrieta Valley (Southwestern)

QB Hank Bachmeier is back for the Nighthawks, but losing WR Marquis Spiker to Washington is a tough one. Murrieta Valley should end on top of the Southwestern League.

  1. Cathedral Catholic of San Diego (Western)

The Dons return a lot of starters this season including RB Shawn Poma. Cathedral Catholic looks to return to the top after a rebuilding year.

  1. Bishop Amat of La Puente (Mission)

The Lancers defense will be led by DB Deven Jarvis. Hopefully they can stick around in another strong Mission League.
