In 2015, yours truly began covering Student Sections in Orange County, California. We expanded to Southern California in 2017 and last year, we added four more states. This past winter, we expanded to 19 states.

Now, we are going to 40 states. This is still a one-man operation for the most part.

Since it all started in Southern California and I know the Student Section very very well in SoCal, we will have Regional coverage in five different Southern California Regions starting with the Los Angeles Region.

I know that Student Sections have a lot of work to do to get the students to the games to cheer on their classmates and go along with the theme and make sure they don’t cause trouble. These student sections deserve recognition.

We will kick off the Student Section season with Preseason Football Student Section Rankings. REMEMBER, this is a PREVIEW. It is merely a prediction. The real rankings come out in November or December.

If you feel your student section isn’t ranked high enough or not ranked at all, let us know and we’ll keep a close eye on them.

Every week, we will also have Student Section of the Week for each state. Once you win Student Section of the Week, you can’t win it again, but you still have to battle for the top spot in your state and perhaps the Nation as we will also name a Football Student Section National Champion.

So far we have previewed the Top 40 Preseason Football Student Section Rankings in Tennessee, Alabama, Alaska, North Carolina, Texas, Utah, the Los Angeles, Orange County and the Inland Empire Regions as well as the Watch List for Hawaii and Indiana.

Today we go to the Kern/San Luis Obispo Region. We couldn’t just keep them in the Northern California Region. It didn’t feel right with this area being so far away from the rest of the Northern part of California, so we added them to the Southern California part as we broke SoCal into five regions.

I don’t know that much about this region. A few of them don’t know us that well either. Kern/SLO will be a challenge and we hope we learn about this area this fall.

In each state (or in this case, Region), we will name one student section to look out for. A student section that doesn’t get talked about a lot by us or others and for the Kern/SLO, it’s the Liberty of Bakersfield. Liberty is considered the top team in the CIF-Central Section and you should expect their Student Section to go nuts. Top teams can bring in top Student Sections.

Will Liberty be the best in the top part of SoCal? Let’s find out where everyone starts this season.

  1. Arroyo Grande Zoo

The Zoo was one of two Student Sections in this region that were ranked last season in the Northern California Top 40 Football Student Section. The Zoo is wild, so being called the Zoo is convenient. The Zoo will have to battle with some great Student Sections, mainly in the Top 10, but the Zoo can handle.
