In 2015, yours truly began covering Student Sections in Orange County, California. We expanded to Southern California in 2017 and last year, we added four more states. This past winter, we expanded to 19 states.

Now, we are going to 40 states. This is still a one-man operation for the most part.

I know that Student Sections have a lot of work to do to get the students to the games to cheer on their classmates and go along with the theme and make sure they don’t cause trouble. These student sections deserve recognition.

We will kick off the Student Section season with Preseason Football Student Section Rankings. REMEMBER, this is a PREVIEW. It is merely a prediction. The real rankings come out in November or December.

If you feel your student section isn’t ranked high enough or not ranked at all, let us know and we’ll keep a close eye on them.

Every week, we will also have Student Section of the Week for each state. Once you win Student Section of the Week, you can’t win it again, but you still have to battle for the top spot in your state and perhaps the Nation as we will also name a Football Student Section National Champion.

So far we have previewed the Top 40 Preseason Football Student Section Rankings in Tennessee, Alabama, Alaska, North Carolina, Texas, Northern California, all five Southern California Regions as well as the Watch List for Hawaii and Indiana. We now combine all five SoCal Regions and make the SoCal Top 50.

For all, but two years of my coverage of Student Sections, we have been covering Southern California and it has been such a blast seeing SoCal be one of the powers in thee Student Section world. Other Student Sections across the country have taken note of how loaded this region is.

In each state (or in this case, each region), we will name one student section to look out for. A student section that doesn’t get talked about a lot by us or others and for SoCal, it’s the El Modena Rowdy Rooters of Orange. Not a lot of people are familiar of the Rowdy Rooters, but this is Student Section has keeps getting better and better and I expect this to be their best year ever. They love to travel and have Elmo from Sesame Street show up as their mascot. Amazing spirit and fantastic school spirit. Brownie points for having my niece as a former Rowdy Rooter leader a few years ago.

Can the Rowdy Rooters rep SoCal and go for a National Title? Only one way to find out.

  1. Servite Asylum of Anaheim (2021 Final Rank: 5)

The Asylum is held to a different standard. There are fantastic Student Sections that impress you every week and then theirs the Asylum that you expect to be much better than everyone else. Hence why I can’t be just impressed with them, I have to be floored. This is a Student Section that has become a dynasty. You have the New York Yankees, Alabama Football and the Servite Asylum. If they go every week home or away and get crazy and show it off on social media, then the Asylum will take the top spot in the OC and SoCal. Then, they’ll battle for the National Football Student Section Title!
