  2025 SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA FALL TOP 40 STUDENT SECTION PRESEASON RANKINGSAugust 21, 2025

  In 2015, yours truly began covering Student Sections in Orange County, California. We expanded to Southern California in 2017 and in 2021, we added four more states and added 15 more states. We went to 40 states two years ago.

  We went to all 50 states in winter of 2023 and now we add our friends from the North in Canada on top of dividing Texas into two regions, similar to what we did with California. No one has ever done that before…until now!

  This is still a one-man operation for the most part, but we have some help with some partners on Instagram like good friends at OC Student Sections and Stadium Geeks with help from Maryland Student Section Rater, NorCal Student Sections and many more.

  This year we plan to get several “barstool” pages that showcase Student Sections in their states. Some of those pages were very helpful last year as we get more accurate with our rankings.

  I know that Student Sections have a lot of work to do to get the students to the games to cheer on their classmates and go along with the theme and make sure they don’t cause trouble. These student sections deserve recognition.

  This past season, we several more Student Sections, including some big powerhouse ones that not only will be a top dawg in their state, but will be a big player in the National side!

  We will kick off the Student Section season with Preseason Football Student Section Rankings. REMEMBER, this is a PREVIEW. It is merely a prediction. The real rankings come out in November or December. 

  If you feel your student section isn’t ranked high enough or not ranked at all, let us know and we’ll keep a close eye on them.

  Every week, we will also have Student Section of the Week for each state. Once you win Student Section of the Week, you can’t win it again, but you still have to battle for the top spot in your state and perhaps the Nation as we will also name a Football Student Section National Champion. 

  We continue with the 2025 Fall Student Section Season with a preview of Southern California.

  SoCal is our bread and butter as we are located here in Orange County. The Student Section Report started as SoCal Student Sections in 2018 and before that we covered Orange County at OC Sidelines and later SoCal at SoCal Sidelines in 2015. While we have grown outside of SoCal, it is still one of the best to cover. Amazing school spirit down here!

  With Student Section Report going out of state for 2-3 games this fall and only being in Orange County for only 2 games, maybe 3 games, we leave it up to OC Student Sections (@OCStudentSections on Instagram) and don’t forget to follow LA Student Sections (@LAStudentSections on Instagram). The work that they do is remarkable and they have a different system than us, but keep in mind, College Sports go off of two rankings and are trusted. Believe me when I say (or type) this, trust these guys, they have their business handled.

  Last Football season, we had the Great Oak Red Wave as the top Football Student Section in Southern California. The Red Wave has the blueprint on how to stay at the top of the rankings. They post their Student Section on Instagram like it is nobody’s business. No one promotes their Student Section as well as the Red Wave. It will be very tough to dethrone the Red Wave, but it is possible, especially with some super solid Student Sections that are behind them. This region is crazy deep!

  In each state, we will name one student section to look out for. A student section that while they aren’t ranked super high or weren’t ranked high last year, they’re a Student Section to lookout for and for Southern California, it’s the Servite Asylum. The Asylum is a roller coaster. One year, they’re dominant, the next year, they’re in rebuilding mode. Based on turn, this is the year the Asylum is back and they’ve have already shown it on Instagram. Top dawg in the OC won’t be good enough, they want to challenge the Red Wave and I think they can do it. I’ve seen the Asylum battle for over a decade now. This is the New York Yankees of Student Sections. Get your popcorn out, this one is going to be fun in SoCal!

  2025 SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA FALL TOP 40 STUDENT SECTION PRESEASON RANKINGS

  1. Great Oak Red Wave (2024 Rank: 1)

  There’s a couple Student Sections in Southern California that want to be the top dawg here, but they want more than that. They want a National Championship Banner and the Red Wave is definitely one of those Student Sections. They have been one of the few close to perfect examples of what a Student Sections should do. Post, post, post on Instagram and show off your loud, crazy and sometimes intense Student Section. The Red Wave does that on a weekly basis like it’s nothing. As mentioned, even trying to be number one in SoCal is a difficult task with so many solid Student Sections here, including Student Sections who are nearby, just a short drive on Interstate-15. The Red Wave will be ready as always with the goal to be on top in the nation!

  Arizona has been a solid state of great Student Sections and while we had some great ones last year, we didn’t really discover new ones nor did we see a plethora of Student Sections consistently showing off their school spirit. Perhaps it’s me putting Arizona up there with some of the best. You can’t blame me as I know this state has some crazy kids in the stands and I expect to be right about that in 2025.

  Last Football season, we had the Highland Nest as the top Football Student Section in Arizona. The Nest has set the standard for being the best Student Section in Arizona. Other Student Sections would have to make a very big impression in order to take down the Nest. It is possible, but if the Nest does their job and show off their Student Section on Instagram, no one will take them down, well it would have to be some really impressive videos/photos of their Student Section to do so.

  In each state, we will name one student section to look out for. A student section that while they aren’t ranked super high or weren’t ranked high last year, they’re a Student Section to lookout for and for Arizona, it’s the Bradshaw Mountain Den. We met the Activities Director of the Bradshaw Mountain at a Student Section portion of a workshop I conducted in late February at CADA State Convention in San Diego and they let us know how amazing their Student Section is and wanted to make sure we highlight them. I hope they tag us because I was impressed with the past videos/photos of their Student Section. Maybe one day we’ll have the funding to head to Prescott to checkout this fantastic Student Section becuase they’ve got potential to hang with the best in Arizona.

  

  Will the Bradshaw Mountain Den climb to the top or will it be the Nest once again in The Grand Canyon State? Let’s find out.

  2025 ARIZONA FALL TOP 40 STUDENT SECTION PRESEASON RANKINGS

  1. Brophy Prep Stampede (2024 Rank: 2)

  The Stampede Instagram was on point last year! Solid Student Section, very crazy and as good as advertised. When we expanded outside of California in 2021, I was told to keep an eye out for the Brophy Prep Stampede because they have a solid Student Section and that is correct! The Stampede will need to promote their Student Section on social media and keep at the pace of Highland in order to finish on top. They can do that and they can make a run in the National Student Section bracket!

  I felt like we discovered New Mexico even more this last fall and to prove that, the National Winter Student Section Finalists came from New Mexico. Maybe we might see more of New Mexico this year. They have a solid group of Student Sections led by two powers in each season, but those powers can be taken down at any point by a new New Mexico Student Section.

  Last Football season, we had the Rio Rancho Mob Squad as the top Football Student Section in New Mexico. The Mob Squad ran away with this one last year and I expect the same in 2025. The social media on Instagram is fantastic and I expect them to show off their school spirit once again. We’ll see if anyone will take the challenge to take down the state champs!

  In each state, we will name one student section to look out for. A student section that while they aren’t ranked super high or weren’t ranked high last year, they’re a Student Section to lookout for and for New Mexico, it’s the Deming. This is a Student Section that has been moving up in the rankings and seems to be hanging around in the herd of the New Mexico Student Section scene and if they just step up a bit, they could keep moving up and perhaps be the new top dawg in the state.

  

  Will Deming keep moving up in the rankings and take the top spot or will the Mob Squad stay on top in the Land of Enchantment? Let’s find out.

  2025 NEW MEXICO FALL TOP 25 STUDENT SECTION PRESEASON RANKINGS

  1. Rio Rancho Mob Squad (2024 Rank: 1)

  Mob Squad dominated on Instagram last fall. They definitely understood the assignment and plan to do the same thing again in 2025. We could have some Student Sections copy and paste what they did, but the Mob Squad will be ready to roll and defend their title! They don’t want anyone taking them down this fall!

  Nevada has been a hit and miss, more so last year during football season, but I think seeing Bishop Manogue Goldmine take the 2024-2025 Nevada Winter Student Section National Title, maybe we will see more Student Sections battle it out in this state to get in the Goldmine territory.

  Last Football season, we had Las Vegas Zoo as the top Football Student Section in Nevada. The Zoo broke the Nevada mold when it came to the number one spot. It’s been either the Liberty Patriot Pit or the Bishop Gorman G-Block. Las Vegas doesn’t want to gamble and have the rankings leadoff with those two again. Perhaps this will be the new trend and we have someone else new at the top or maybe Las Vegas will be the new routine one pick in the state.

  In each state, we will name one student section to look out for. A student section that while they aren’t ranked super high or weren’t ranked high last year, they’re a Student Section to lookout for and for Nevada, it’s Bishop Manogue Goldmine. Now, I know what you’re thinking, didn’t they just win a National Student Section Championship? Yes, but that was for the Winter season and during our first year covering Football Student Sections in Nevada in 2022, I tried to hype up Bishop Manogue to be one of the top dawgs in the state, but one of their students at the time said it’s no use, they’re terrible during football season. It made me think this is a Student Section that steps it up in the Winter. While we are right about the Winter part, I have to think the Goldmine doesn’t take a day off and I hope they can prove that this fall!

  1. Las Vegas Zoo (2024 Rank: 1)

  After taking the top spot in 2024, Las Vegas isn’t going to cash out its winnings in 2025. I have a feeling that Las Vegas will keep it coming on Instagram. They’ll have to step it up a bit in order to hold down number one again. Liberty can be hit and miss (the Patriot Pit leaders are solid, but they can’t do it all by themselves). If nothing changes around Las Vegas, this will be repeat.

  This past season, we several more Student Sections, including some big powerhouse ones that not only will be a top dawg in their state, but will be a big player in the National side!

  We will kick off the Student Section season with Preseason Football Student Section Rankings. REMEMBER, this is a PREVIEW. It is merely a prediction. The real rankings come out in November or December. 

  If you feel your student section isn’t ranked high enough or not ranked at all, let us know and we’ll keep a close eye on them.

  Every week, we will also have Student Section of the Week for each state. Once you win Student Section of the Week, you can’t win it again, but you still have to battle for the top spot in your state and perhaps the Nation as we will also name a Football Student Section National Champion. 

  We continue with the 2025 Fall Student Section Season with a preview of Hawaii.

  This is a tough state to figure out, but we found some players in the Student Section scene in Hawaii that might shake up the top spot in this state that has been controlled by one Student Section. We hope to see more Student Sections in Hawaii on Instagram and we hope to see a new top dawg this fall.

  Last Football season, we had Kahuku Code Red as the top Football Student Section in Hawaii. Code Red has been a dominant Student Section in the winter and mainly the fall, but will this be the year someone takes them out of the top spot? If a Student Section has any interaction or more consistency posting on social media, we may have a new state champ here.

  In each state, we will name one student section to look out for. A student section that while they aren’t ranked super high, they’re a Student Section to lookout for and for Hawaii, it’s Kaiser. If we see more of this Student Section in the fall on Instagram and perhaps some interaction with us stating they want to be number one, then we will have a new state champ. It will take a lot of work to take over Code Red, but I feel Kaiser has the best chance at it.

  2024-2025 WINTER STUDENT SECTION NATIONAL CHAMPIONS!!!

  I have been trying to get Bishop Manogue involved in the Student Section scene when we first began to cover Nevada in 2021, but it was tough. I had them in the middle of the herd and then, they found us and they ran with it! Forget bring the best in Nevada, they wanted more than that! They wanted to be the best of the best in the nation! It helps to get Jack of all Fades (@jack_of_all_fades on Instagram) to post the insanity of the Goldmine! This Student Section was over the top and put them on the map in Nevada. Bishop Manogue really had to battle in the voting in the National Winter Student Section Playoffs, beating some of the very best Student Sections in the nation to take the top spot! It is an honor to give this National Title to a very crazy Student Section and one that appears to rattle anyone that faces their brothers in the court! A definite 6th Man!

  I mean this shouldn’t come as a surprise. The Red Wave is a powerhouse of a Student Section not just in Southern California, but in the country. They’ve set the standard and have remained a consistent power in the stands for awhile now. The social media game is at another level and they pack the stands and go nuts, sometimes on the court! They made it to the Final Four of the National Winter Student Section Playoffs and were the favorites to win it all. Look at this Student Section the same way you look at Duke Basketball, they’re always the favorite you drop your jaw when they are out in the playoffs brackets. While they were a round away from the Championship Final, they held on to the SoCal Title as they are the 2024-2025 Southern California Winter Student Section of the Year!

  We continue our Final Rankings in all of the 50 states we covered this football season. 

  To say I’m overwhelmed with the work that comes along with this is an understatement.

  We had Student Section of the Week for over 10 weeks and that helped us determine who had the best Student Section and which one wanted it more.

  Just showing up in large crowds isn’t enough. It might fool other outlets that don’t cover Student Sections, but not us. We have to know how bad you want and marketing is key. 

  You will see top-notch Student Sections miss out at the top spot, but we kept saying it over and over and over again, in order to be considered number one, you have to win the Student Section of the Week title. Otherwise, what is the point of having that contest?!

  I know Student Sections complain, but remember it’s thousands of Student Sections and only me. Social media is your friend if used correctly.

  When we started covering Student Sections in 2015, it began with only Orange County, California. We expanded in 2016 to Southern California before expanding to other states last year.

  We had Murrieta Mesa Beast taking the SoCal title in 2016, Vista Murrieta Bronco Bleacher Creatures in 2017, Rancho Cucamonga Rooters in 2018, Los Alamitos Locos in 2019, Murrieta Valley Red Zone in 2021, Carlsbad Loud Crowd in 2022 and Chapparral Puma Pit in 2023.

  Southern California is the headquarters of the Student Section Report and this regions means the world to me.

  This group is so deep that we have honorable mentions that would battle for a state title elsewhere. A very deep region!

  We will have 5 Student Sections in Southern California that will be voting in the Student Section playoffs that will begin soon.

  RED = PLAYOFF BOUND

  1. Great Oak Red Wave (2023 Rank: 3)

  Red Wave knows the assignment. In fact, I’m pretty sure they invented the assignment. The Red Wave packs the stands every home game and goes insane! They enjoy the music at the most appropriate times, something that some Student Sections struggle to do, they go nuts when it’s time to rattle their opponent and lost their minds when the Wolfpack score! The Red Wave knows how to work social media and always love to show off their school spirit. We’ll see how they will do when they get ready to vote in the National Football Student Section playoffs with the top seed in the Southwest Regio, but one thing is for sure, the Great Oak Red Wave are the Inland Empire Football Student Section Champions!

  2. Aliso Niguel Den (2023 Rank: NR)

  The Den turn it up a bunch of notches! I didn’t think they would get this crazy, but they did and had control of the OC all year! They were one of two SoCal Student Sections to win the National Student Section of the Week! Great group of kids and they wanted this and got it! We’ll see how they will do when they get ready to vote in the National Football Student Section playoffs, but this was a no brainer, the Aliso Niguel Den are the Orange County Football Student Section Champions!

  3. Carlsbad Loud Crowd (2023 Rank: 2)

  This was a close one, but the Loud Crowd held on for another San Diego Football Student Section title! Pack house and loud and insane! The pregame stuff they do is amazing and that continues with the fog machine, powder toss, flares and confetti. We’ll see how they will do when they get ready to vote in the National Football Student Section playoffs, but for the fifth time in six years, the Carlsbad Loud Crowd are the San Diego Football Student Section Champions!

  4. Millikan Mob (2023 Rank: 13)

  The Mob went wild in the stands and they had every reason to with their Rams beating Long Beach Poly for the first time in 15 years and watching them win their first Moore League title in 51 years! It was a historic season on the field and now in the stands. We’ll see how they will do when they get ready to vote in the National Football Student Section playoffs, but for now, the Millikan Mob are the Los Angeles Football Student Section Champions!

  The Drill Crew worked social media way better than anyone else in this region. When you have as much fun as this Student Section, you can’t blame them for showing off their school spirit!   Let’s take a quick timeout from the Final State Rankings and go back to the Student Section Report roots!

  When this Student Section Rankings started with OC Sidelines in 2015, I didn’t expect an overwhelming reaction. We remember naming La Habra Clan (Now the La Habra Highlander Huddle) was our first Football Student Section Champion.

  We extend the Student Section Rankings to Southern California when OCSidelines became SoCal Sidelines with Murrieta Mesa being the 2016 SoCal Student Section Champions. When SoCalSidelines went out of business, we began SoCal Student Sections, which later became the Student Section Report.

  While we are the first and only ones to ever rank Student Sections all 50 states, it all started in Southern California, so I have still have knowledge of the Student Section scene in SoCal despite focusing in all 50 states.

  The winners in each of the five SoCal Regions will battle in the National Student Section playoffs!

  Red Wave knows the assignment. In fact, I’m pretty sure they invented the assignment. The Red Wave packs the stands every home game and goes insane! They enjoy the music at the most appropriate times, something that some Student Sections struggle to do, they go nuts when it’s time to rattle their opponent and lost their minds when the Wolfpack score! The Red Wave knows how to work social media and always love to show off their school spirit. We’ll see how they will do when they get ready to vote in the National Football Student Section playoffs with the top seed in the Southwest Regio, but one thing is for sure, the Great Oak Red Wave are the Inland Empire Football Student Section Champions!

  The time has come to start ranking 50 states that we covered this football season.

  We had 12 Student Section of the Week winners in Arizona and that helped us determine who had the best Student Section and which ones wanted it more.

  Just showing up in large crowds isn’t enough. It might fool other outlets that don’t cover Student Sections, but not us. We have to know how bad you want it and marketing is key. 

  You will see top-notch Student Sections miss out at the top spot, but we kept saying it over and over and over again, in order to be considered number one, you have to win the Student Section of the Week title. Otherwise, what is the point of having that contest?!

  I know Student Sections complain but remember it’s thousands of Student Sections and only me. Social media is your friend if used correctly.

  A Student Section that doesn’t post videos or photos of there Student Section on a consistent basis is like a tree falling with no one around. It doesn’t make any noise.

  This is our fourth year covering Football Student Sections in Arizona. We had the Highland Hawks Nest win it in 2021 & 2022 and Liberty Uproar in 2023.

  This is a state that is deep and loaded with insane and crazy Student Sections and we discovered several more this fall. This might be one of deeper states when it comes to Student Sections.

  We will have 4 Student Sections in Arizona that will be voting in the Student Section playoffs that will begin soon.

  So, let’s see who made the list and who is the best in the Grand Canyon State.

  2024 ARIZONA FINAL TOP 40 FOOTBALL STUDENT SECTION RANKINGS

  The Nest is back on top! After battling last year and falling to the 2 spot, the Nest reloaded and handled business this fall. They pack the stands and get crazy weird. We’ll see how they will do when they get ready to vote in the National Football Student Section playoffs, but for the third time in four years, the Highland Hawks Nest are the Arizona Football Student Section Champions!

  I felt like I was watching a behind the scenes episode of the Stampede this fall. The Student Section may not be the largest, but they make up for it with the hype they bring in the stands. The Hype is definitely real here. Social media is your friend if done right and the Stampede worked the marketing this fall. I have a feeling the Stampede will pull some upsets when they get ready to vote in the National Football Student Section playoffs!

  First off, I like the unique lens shots. The Knightmare made their case this fall as one of the best in a state full of amazing Student Sections.   We will have 2 Student Sections in New Mexico that will be voting in the Student Section playoffs that will begin soon.

The consistency of promoting the Mob Squad and showing off the Student Section is the reason why Rio Rancho is the top dawg this year! @actionportsphotographer505 on Instagram did their part as well. This was a team victory! I suggest other Student Sections take notes! They may not have the biggest Student Section, but they make up for it with their marketing. Bonus points for the Alien in the stands “Roswell”. We’ll see how they will fare when they vote in the Student Section playoffs, but one this is for sure, the Rio Rancho Mob Squad is your 2024 New Mexico Football Student Section of the Year!

  La Cueva posted here and there, but it was this photo that snuck them past Hobbs for the 2 spot. A good number of Students in the stands that like to have fun! We’ll see how they will do when they vote in the Student Section playoffs soon!

  Hobbs in the Top 5 of the New Mexico Student Section Rankings is becoming a common thing. They have displayed consistency year after year. They can bring it in the stands in much larger numbers than the majority in this state and show it off on social media as well!

  Cleveland Student Section can pack the stands and are pretty good at distracting their opponent based on the wacky hats they wear. They definitely like to party in the stands and go nuts for their team!
