Co-SoCal Student Section of the Week for Week 9: Bishop Amat Dawgpound

A tie?

Yes, but this is SoCal Student Sections and we share the wealth.

Besides thanks to you, we broke a record for most votes for the Student Section of the week with 3,169 votes.

The all-time record is 5,734 votes when Rancho Cucamonga took the 2018 SoCal Football Student Section title over the Villa Park Black Pack!

Now, we know a tie isn’t as ideal and while past winners brag about winning it alone, remember this, 3,169 and the Bishop Amat Dawgpound took 35% of the votes, which means the Dawgpound took over 1,100 votes whereas Week 8 winner took 37% of the 1,846 votes, which means 683 votes.

So while the Dawgpound tied, they went crazy on the votes. Nothing to be discouraged about!

Now, it did take awhile for the Bishop Amat Dawgpound of La Puente to take this title as they won this last season in August.

The Dawgpound, which are the defending Los Angeles Football Student Section Champion, made a strong point to defend their title when the Lancers hosted Notre Dame of Sherman Oaks.

A win claims the Mission League title for Bishop Amat and the Dawgpound was ready to go!

A large and crazy crowd showed their school spirit and in return the Lancers entertained them with a 35-21 victory to take the Mission League title.

Then came the voting and it was never ending. With a SoCal Student Section record, we had a tie with Chino Cowboy Country and the Bishop Amat Dawgpound as both student sections took the Week 9 SoCal Student Section of the Week honors.

We spoke with the Dawgpound on what it took to be SoCal best Student Section last week.

You guys are the Week Nine Co-So Cal Student Section of the week with Chino Cowboy Country, beating out the Carlsbad Loud Crowd and Corona del Mar Kings Krew. What did it take to stand out as one of the best in Southern California?

Dawgpound: The Bishop Amat Dog Pound stands out against the rest because we are all one big family and we all come together to support the boys. We aren’t there just to party, we are there to actually watch the games and make a lot of new friends at the same time. Bishop Amat’s school spirit is unlike any other and our whole student body looks forward to being in the Dawgpound every home game.

What is your most memorable game you have ever attended as a member of the student section?

Dawgpound: The most memorable game I have ever attended was this year’s Blue Out game. This game was almost as crazy as last weeks White Out, but the atmosphere and the energy was off the charts. The first game of the year is always the most intense and fun because students have been waiting all summer for football season to start.

Favorite theme?

Dawgpound: Our favorite theme is definitely our Blue Out because it is always the first home game of the year and all the students come filled with energy.

Favorite chant?

Dawgpound: Our favorite chant is our “I Believe” chant right before we throw the powder. We are known for throwing an insane amount of powder and it is the most fun part of the game. All the students dance and go crazy which also shows the boys that we are there supporting them.

What’s your least favorite chant that you hear from the other side of the stadium/gym?

Dawgpound: We have never had a student section come and compete with us at a home game. But, we are so loud in the Dawgpound we don’t hear anyone but ourselves and our music.

Outside of you guys, is there one student section that you have seen or heard about where you think, “Man, that is a good student section?”

Dawgpound: A Student Section that has always stood out to us is the Carlsbad Loud Crowd. The amount of Lancers that go to their games is crazy and we even saw a video with CO2 machines and spark cannons. That would definitely be something that we want to consider doing.
