MARCHING BAND/COLOR GUARD Q&A: BOILING SPRINGS OF SOUTH CAROLINA

With the Student Section in off-season mode, we look to put our focus on the Marching Bands and Color Guards!

This website obviously put the focus on the Student Sections as it is the only reason we stay active, but many of these Student Sections have some solid bands that give them the energy or at the least share that insane energy. They play the right music to keep the hype up, the interact with the Student Section and the work they put week after week to prep for the game is impressive and that deserves some recognition.

We did do a Marching Band/Color Guard Q&A called “I’m with the Band Q&A” (not my greatest title, I know!) with some Bands in Southern California in 2019 when we only covered Student Sections in SoCal, but with a much much bigger followed, we figured we bring this idea back to life!

Plus it helps to get the assistance from South Carolina Bands (@southcarolina_bands on Instagram), Alabama Bands (@bama_bands on Instagram) and Bands of the US (@bands_of_the_us on Instagram) helping us out to find the best Bands that want you to get to know them!

We continue our series with another South Carolina Marching Band/Color Guard, the Boiling Springs Bulldogs. Some of these school names we are familiar with as we cover some of their Student Sections and Boilings Springs Student Sections has been on the outside of the Football Student Section Top 40 Rankings, but perhaps featuring their Marching Band and Color Guard will get them to show off their Student Section a little bit more to break in the Top 40!

We spoke with the Boiling Springs Marching Band and Color Guard on how they prepare for Friday Nights and other events while also having some fun!

MARCHING BAND/COLOR GUARD Q&A: ASHLEY RIDGE OF SOUTH CAROLINA

What is the weekly routine to prepare for a football game and the halftime show? Are there adjustments made every week?

Boiling Springs: We typically practice from 4-7 after school Monday, Thursday, Thursday and we have football games on Fridays. Thursdays tend to lean more towards stand tunes and full runs however. We typically don’t change our practice schedule each week, unless there are days where we have a typical practice instead of a football game, or sometimes we have a practice on a Saturday.

Make Sure to follow us in Instagram (@studentsectrep). The more followers, the better chance we can travel to visit your Student Section.

Do you enjoy the game or follow it as it goes along or are you focused with your job?

Boiling Springs: As someone who grew up watching football, yes I do tend to follow along with the game. But as a member of the band, it’s also important for me to focus on my job. I feel as though the progress of the game definitely helps the band have more energy, and vice versa. However, not everyone’s favorite game is football so some do tend to be more focused on the band portion.

Do you play any pop culture songs and if so, which is your favorite?

Boiling Springs: My favorite “pop culture” song that we play is 100% Swag Surfin. We just started playing it during the 2024 season, but it quickly became a band favorite. Some honorable mentions however, are Toxic, Paint It Black, and September.

What kind of appreciation do you get from people at the games?

Boiling Springs: Most appreciation comes from band parents themselves, but we often have our principal, student section, and the opposing teams band who always hang out to watch us perform at halftime! They’re almost always on the sidelines, or in the stands, cheering us on. We also get recognition from the band parents after the game as we get to take home all the leftover food.

Do you guys interact with the Student Section?

It’s not often that we interact with our student section. However, we occasionally interact with the cheerleaders and do a p-a-r-t-y chant.

Do you perform at other Boiling Springs sports functions like basketball and how has the reception been?

As for sport functions, we don’t typically perform or attend. But we do participate and play for school events such as pep rallies. We host over annual Festival of Bands and do an exhibition however.

What is the funniest or most embarrassing moment as a member of the band/color guard?

The funniest moments as a band member is when our directors just start having a good time. We have the luxury of having the best directors we could ever ask for. They strive for our excellence and support us in everything we do. They’re genuinely amazing people and the funniest people on the planet.

Any other band that you enjoy hearing from the other side of the stadium?

My favorite bands that I enjoy hearing on the other side of the stadium, or watching perform, would have to be Dorman or Byrnes High School. They not only sound really good, but they’re fun to watch perform. We’ve had a couple football games where we play a song back and forth with the band on the opposite side and that is really exciting as well.
