SoCal Student Section of the Week (01/30/2020): Servite Asylum

Built for Battle!

The Servite Asylum of Anaheim has been built for battle for decades now, regardless of what sport it is, the Asylum rocks the stands.

The Asylum goes nuts and what lacks in decoration, they make up for it in savage chants and rattling towards the opposing players and student section.

Home or away the Asylum rocks it and the proof was shown last week when the Friars when on the road against Orange Lutheran in a Trinity League showdown.

The Road Warriors battled with a loud Orange Lutheran Code Red and the student section battle with both schools did not disappoint.

The Asylum took control of the volume while the Friars took control of the game in a 69-60 victory over OLu.

Servite took over the gym!

Now, the Asylum almost wasn’t even a SoCal Student Section of the Week Nominee as their sister school Rosary of Fullerton and the Rowdy Royals almost took their spot, but Servite snuck in. It’s fitting that it came down to the brother and sister schools.

Servite Asylum went to the voting polls and with 43 percent of the vote, the Servite Asylum took the SoCal Student Section of the Week title.

We spoke to the Asylum on what it took to take the weekly title in Southern California.

CREDO!

You guys are the So Cal Student Section of the Week, beating out the Murrieta Mesa Beast, San Marcos Blue Crew and Palos Verdes  Red Tide. What did it take to stand out as one of the best in Southern California?

Servite Asylum: We had a crucial game on the road for our basketball team. The Asylum showed up and we showed up BIG. It is all about supporting one another as we go on in this crazy life.

You guys almost didn’t become the OC rep as a finalist for SoCal Student Section of the week. We almost want with the Rosary Rowdy Royals, your sister school. How great is it that they can match the craziness in the stands?

Servite Asylum: It is great to see that our sister school showed their spirit. It is always a fun time when you are playing Mater Dei and the Rosary Rowdy Royals did a great job.

What is your most memorable game you have ever attended as a member of the student section?

Servite Asylum: Our most memorable game this season is when we played St. John Bosco at home in a close overtime game. It may not have been the outcome we wanted, but what matters is being there for our fellow brothers.

Favorite theme?

Servite Asylum: Our favorite theme has to be either the T-Bone theme, which is where the Asylum dressed up in our professional dress in honor of our fearless football coach, Coach Thomas, or the traditional Blackout theme for the boys.

Favorite chant?

Servite Asylum: Our favorite chant has to be the classic WE ARE SERVITE.

What’s your least favorite chant that you hear from the other side of the stadium/gym?

Servite Asylum: The chant, “We have girls,” is old and not creative because we have heard it from just about every student section. But, when the opposing student section starts the chant, we always give good responses.

Outside of you guys, is there one student section that you have seen or heard about where you think, “Man, that is a good student section?”

Servite Asylum: To answer your question, some are larger in numbers, but none compare to our loudness, spirit, and love for our fellow Friars.
