STUDENT SECTION BATTLES (08/26-27/21)
Let’s see if the Placer Goldmine of Auburn can be road warriors for a second straight week! Photo Credit/Instagram @placersleadership
We saw a lot of great Student Sections last week!
We had a great debut in our coverage of Northern California and Nevada Student Sections and we hope it continues to grow, especially since we add Arizona Student Sections to the list tomorrow!
We decided to go ahead and add Northern California to our list Student Section Battles to Watch Let’s see if we got it right.
Let’s get loud and rowdy this weekend!
STUDENT SECTION BATTLES (Aug. 26-27, 2021)
(All Games on Friday unless noted)
STUDENT SECTION BATTLE OF THE WEEK
Foothill Dungeon of Santa Ana at Tustin Barn, 7pm
This is for City bragging rights in the city of Tustin.
Now for you outsiders, you might be thinking, Manny, Foothill is in Santa Ana as it says on the header. Technically yes, but it’s right on the Santa Ana/Tustin city border line and Foothill has a Tustin feel to it, so this counts! Foothill has won the last two meetings and the Tillers want the trophy back!
The Dungeon traveled last week and we know they’ll be ready. The Barn we only see at some home games, so this has to be the year that they show up. Besides, they have a fantastic football team on the field. What more do you want?
NORTHERN CALIFORNIA
Clayton Valley of Concord at Turlock Dogpound, 7pm
The reason why we don’t just cover Southern California Student Sections is because of the Dogpound. They asked us if we can expand our coverage and we went for it. We also know that the Dogpound traveled to Clayton Valley to cheer on their team, so perhaps Clayon Valley Ugly Eagles (Yes, that’s their name) will return the favor?
Jesuit of Carmichael at Folsom Dogpack, 7pm
Both teams have solid Student Sections and if you’re playing the Bulldogs, you need all your ammo and Jesuit Student Section will be needed to stray away the Folsom and their Dogpack.
Placer Goldmine of Auburn at Roseville Tiger Cage, 7:15pm
Last week’s Northern California Student Section Champs will look to stay on top with a road trip to Roseville. The Goldmine will be needed to help the Hillman get their first victory. Mainly because the Tiger Cage will be open and let loose. This should be a good show all around.
Oak Ridge Blue Crew of El Dorado Hills at Vacaville, 7:30pm
The Blue Crew will look to rinse and repeat, but on the road against a Vacaville squad that also has a solid Student Section. Blue Crew should handle, but I can’t sleep on Vacaville either.
West Park of Roseville at Woodcreek Wolfpack of Roseville, 7:15pm
The only NorCal Student Section I have ever seen in person was the Woodcreek Wolfpack when they played at the Golden 1 Center for the CIF Boys Basketball State Championship I was covering against Bishop Montgomery of Torrance. It was insane! If the Wolfpack can duplicate what I saw four years ago, then they’ll be voting for the NorCal Student Section of the Week on Saturday.
INLAND EMPIRE
Vista Murrieta Bronco Bleacher Creatures at Heritage Patriot Pit of Menifee, 7pm
The Bronco Bleacher Creatures roadshow is amazing and Menifee isn’t that far away from Murrieta, so BBC should take over, but the Patriot Pit is a solid home Student Section. If they do, will we see it on social media? Probably not, but I know BBC will show it off!
Temecula Valley Gold Zone at Elsinore Tigers Den of Wildomar, 7pm
I’m not putting money on social media here. There will be a Student Section with the Tiger Den at home and perhaps a roadshow from the Gold Zone as Wildomar isn’t far away from Temecula, but we don’t see both Student Sections that often. Hopefully that changes this weekend.
Ramona Rowdy Rams of Riverside at ML King Wolfpack of Riverside, 7pm
The Rowdy Rams have done some work on social media to show off their school spirit. Maybe we keep seeing that this season as they face a city rival. The Wolfpack is a great Student Section, but we never see them on social media. Protect your home and show it off to everyone in California.
Roosevelt Stampede of Eastvale at Great Oak Red Zone of Temecula, 7pm
Two great Student Sections that are inconsistent in the social media game. THe Red Zone is all word of mouth and it’s true, they have a solid Student Section, but what keeps them away from the top spot if their marketing skills. That has to change. I’ve seen the Stampede travel before and I hope they show that off.
Redlands East Valley Red Zone at Los Osos Grizzly Nation of Rancho Cucamonga, 7pm
Coming off a tough 2019 season, the Red Zone will look to help the Wildcats bounce back. Red Zone better be ready because Grizzly Nation is a great Student Section at the beginning of the season, so be ready because they’ll rock you in the stands.
LOS ANGELES
La Habra Clan at Bishop Amat Dawgpound of La Puente, 7pm
The Clan showed off their Student Section and I hope it can be a consistent thing like it used to be a few years ago. They better come through on Friday because the Dawgpound doesn’t mess around. Solid Student Section, so Clan better be ready!
Alemany Warzone of Mission Hills at St. John Bosco Tribe of Bellflower, 7pm
I know, LA traffic is a blanking nightmare on a Friday evening, but if the Warzone can show, massive kudos, especially against Bosco. The Tribe is fantastic, but they’re missing a huge piece of this whole Student Section game, consistent marketing on social media. You can’t be number one without. Impossible. Show it off!
Newbury Park Panther Pit vs. Crescenta Valley Falcon Nation of La Crescenta at Glendale, 7pm
I’ve seen the Panther Pit at a home game before and they’re great! A short drive (which consist of an hour and a half in LA) to Glendale shouldn’t be an issue, well maybe, but if the Panther Pit pulls it off, then Falcon Nation will have a battle on their hands. Hoping one of their hands is for taking videos and photos of the Student Section and posting it on social media. Not asking for much here.
St. Bonaventure Gates of Heaven of Ventura at Pacifica Big Kahuna of Oxnard, 7pm
Gates of Heaven and Big Kahuna are two great names for Student Sections, but we hope they can battle it out on Friday. Both Student Sections weaknesses is social media. Hope they can show off their school spirit!
Ontario Jag Jungle at West Covina Bulldog Nation, 7pm
Not sure if the Jag Jungle is quite there yet as far as traveling, but if they do make the trip, they better be ready for Bulldog Nation! This Student Section is fantastic in the stands and on social media. I’ve missed Bulldog Nation after the year off.
ORANGE COUNTY
Orange Juice Box vs. Villa Park Black Pack at El Modena of Orange, Thursday, 7pm
This is going to be a crazy one! Great football game with a Student Section on the rise in the Juice Box and one of the best Student Sections in Southern California. Black Pack is finally home and so is the Juice Box, so expect a lot of noise and rowidiness tonight!
Servite Asylum of Anaheim vs. Mission Viejo Diablo Inferno at Orange Coast College of Costa Mesa, Thursday, 7:30pm
The Asylum was just getting warmed up last week. I expect the Asylum to get crazier and crazier in the stands and with their themes! The innovaters will also prepare for a possible appearance from the Diablo Inferno. We don’t know if they’ll drive to the 55 freeway, but if they do, we’ll see it on social media. This has the potential to be a good one.
Valencia of Placentia Tigers Den at Yorba Linda Stable, 7pm
The Stable is coming back to full form and I love it! They will look to control their home turf when the Tigers Den comes to town. Valencia might be down this year, but the Tigers Den will look to be the spark plug for Valencia. Hopefully we see that on social media, something I no longer have to tell the Stable about, they got the marketing part down now!
Upland Dogpound vs. Orange Lutheran Code Red at Orange Coast College of Costa Mesa, 7pm
Doubtful that the Dogpound will travel to Costa Mesa, but Code Red should prepare for it just in case. Social media is decent for Code Red, so more marketing wouldn’t hurt. OLu will need that spark from their classmates.
Christian of El Cajon at St. Margaret’s Kitchen of San Juan Capistrano, 7pm
I know Christian has a Student Section, but highly doubt they’ll drive up to South Orange County. The Kitchen showed off their appliances last Friday at a Volleyball game and we expect them to be crazy as usual. Please share your weird halftime show with everyone!
SAN DIEGO
St. Augustine Saints Pit of San Diego at Oceanside Ship, 7pm
The Ship better be ready because the Pit is looking to take control of your boat. The Saints Pit sent me an invitation to this game, but since I also cover football for the Orange County Register, I will be unavailable. The Ship will be rocking, but the Saints Pit will look to sink them. This is going to be a very fun one!
Henry Hooligans of San Diego at Mt. Carmel Red Sea of San Diego, 7pm
The Hooligans are planning to take the roadshow to Mt. Carmel as they prep to battle with the Red Sea. Red Sea is terrific and we see them on social media here and there, but I’ve been very impressed with the Hooligans. Great Student Section and they market themselves quite well!
Eastlake Titan Army of Chula Vista at Poway Titan Terrors, 7pm
I heard the losing team has to give up the Titans naming rights. Not true, but that would be pretty sweet. Anyway, you never know if the Titan Army will travel or not, we may never know since they aren’t social media strong, but the Titan Terrors do enough to get the exposure they need to be considered the best. Titans win this one…
El Camino Jungle of Oceanside at Grossmont of El Cajon, 7pm
This one will be tough to find out as far as the reception of the Student Section. Both Student Sections are solid, but they don’t show it off on a consistent basis. The Jungle will every now and then, but I guess it’s better than nothing. The Jungle has a good group of kids and it would be nice if they get rewarded for being a great Student Section.
La Costa Canyon Stampede of Carlsbad at Vista Panther Pit, 7pm
I’m unsure about this Student Section battle. Both are pretty good, but they are very hidden about it. No social media presence from both sections. Hoping that changes this school year. This has the potential to be a good one.
