  2023 MAINE FOOTBALL STUDENT SECTION TOP 15 PRESEASON RANKINGSAugust 23, 2023

  In 2015, yours truly began covering Student Sections in Orange County, California. We expanded to Southern California in 2017 and two years ago, we added four more states and added 15 more states. We went to 40 states last fall.

  This last winter, we went to all 50 states. No one has ever done that before…until now!

  This is still a one-man operation for the most part.

  I know that Student Sections have a lot of work to do to get the students to the games to cheer on their classmates and go along with the theme and make sure they don’t cause trouble. These student sections deserve recognition.

  We will kick off the Student Section season with Preseason Football Student Section Rankings. REMEMBER, this is a PREVIEW. It is merely a prediction. The real rankings come out in November or December. 

  If you feel your student section isn’t ranked high enough or not ranked at all, let us know and we’ll keep a close eye on them.

  Every week, we will also have Student Section of the Week for each state. Once you win Student Section of the Week, you can’t win it again, but you still have to battle for the top spot in your state and perhaps the Nation as we will also name a Football Student Section National Champion. 

  We continue with the 2023 Football Student Section Season with a preview of Maine.

  Now I know what you’re thinking, what’s so special about Maine aside from delicious Lobster? I’m here to say to not sleep on Maine. Maine joined the Student Section Report for the Basketball Student Section season and almost shocked the Nation with the York Catpack finishing number two in the nation. Maybe there’s something special in this state when it comes to school spirit.

  In each state, we will name one student section to look out for. A student section that doesn’t get talked about a lot by us or others and for Maine, it’s the Portland Dawgpound. We really don’t know much about them, but one of the best football teams in the state and a solid Student Section spells trouble. I expect the Dawgpound to shake it up this fall.

  Foxcroft Academy battled for the top state ranking in the Basketball Student Section Rankings. This is the same solid Student Section with one of the best football teams in the state. I expect a good mix in the 1-2 combo.

  We continue our Final Rankings in the 41 states we covered this football season. 

  To say I’m overwhelmed with the work that comes along with this is an understatement.

  We had Student Section of the Week for over 10 weeks and that helped us determine who had the best Student Section and which one wanted it more.

  Just showing up in large crowds isn’t enough. It might fool other outlets that don’t cover Student Sections, but not us. We have to know how bad you want and marketing is key. 

  You will see top-notch Student Sections miss out at the top spot, but we kept saying it over and over and over again, in order to be considered number one, you have to win the Student Section of the Week title. Otherwise, what is the point of having that contest?!

  I know Student Sections complain, but remember it’s thousands of Student Sections and only me. Social media is your friend if used correctly.

  Pennsylvania is one of the toughest state to figure out as far as getting the rankings as accurately as possible. We feel we got some of the best on here. I’m sure we’ll get other Student Sections on this list next season!
