SoCal Student Section of the Week (01/18/19): Rancho Cucamonga Rancho Rooters

The Rancho Cucamonga Rancho Rooters are picking up where they left off.

After taking the 2018 SoCal Football Student Section Football Title, the Rancho Rooters returned to the sidelines and went wild for their Cougars, ranked No. 9 in the IE, who are in the top half of the Baseline League, one of the strongest basketball leagues in Southern California.

Perhaps they can take the Inland Empire Student Section title again, this time for basketball. The same can be said for the SoCal title.

The Rancho Rooters ran away with the title and it should be no surprise, they have been known as one of the best student sections for the last several years.

The Rancho Rooters had competition, including my Alma Mater. Let’s meet the SoCal Basketball Student Section Finalist.

The St. John Bosco Tribe of Bellflower got a big treat when they showed up and cheered for their Braves. Bosco, ranked No. 5 in LA and No. 9 in SoCal, pulled off a huge victory over Mater Dei of Santa Ana, ranked No. 1 in the OC and No. 5 in SoCal.

The victory gives Bosco the opportunity to win the Trinity League title. That will give The Tribe another reason to rush the court. The Tribe is climbing up the elite part of the student section rankings. It’s no surprise that they are here reppin Los Angeles.

The Los Locos of Cathedral Catholic of San Diego repped San Diego and filled the stands to the brim to get ready for huge Western League matchup against St. Augustine of San Diego, ranked No. 2 in San Diego and No. 19 in SoCal.

They also had to get ready for The Saints Pit. Los Locos owned the gym despite a tough 62-55 Dons loss. Not to worry though because Cathedral Catholic, ranked No. 13 in San Diego, will return the favor for their wild student section.

The Canyon Tribe of Anaheim is a powerhouse every basketball season and they had to get ready for a big Crestview League matchup against Villa Park, ranked No. 4 in the OC.

The Tribe also had to show up for one of the best student section showdown in Southern California with the Blue Crew on the other side.

The Tribe destroyed a lot of ear drums and made Orange County proud and the Comanches, ranked No. 6 in the OC, made The Tribe proud in a huge win over their rivals at the “Battle of the Hills”

They also made yours truly proud, a former member of The Tribe…many many years ago.

In the end, it was the Rancho Rooters that came out on top as the Cougars took a win on the road against neighborhood rival Los Osos of Rancho Cucamonga and a home win against Upland.

The Rancho Rooters showed up on the road against their rivals and then showed up for the home game. The Rooters have kept the ball rolling in the stands and once again, they are the SoCal Student Section of the week.

We spoke with the Rancho Rooters on what it took to take the award again.

You guys are the So Cal Student Section of the week, beating out the Canyon Tribe, Cathedral Catholic Los Locos and the St. John Bosco Tribe. What did it take to stand out as one of the best in Southern California?

Rancho Rooters: It takes a lot of effort and energy to be a good student section. You always have to be ready to go to games and support.

What is your most memorable game you have ever attended as a member of the student section?

Rancho Rooters: From this season the most memorable game was the Osos away game. They are our rivals and both sections go crazy with chants! The game was also really entertaining and it was so dope that our team won over our rivals.

Favorite theme?

Rancho Rooters: My favorite theme is just straight purple and Rancho Rooter shirts.

Favorite chant?

Rancho Rooters: My favorite chant is “This is our House” when we are beating teams at away games. It always makes the other team angry which helps our team.

What’s your least favorite chant that you hear from the other side of the stadium/gym?

Rancho Rooters: My least favorite chant to hear is “We Can’t Hear You” because I know they are just trying to bother us but it still always frustrates me.

Outside of you guys, is there one student section that you have seen or heard about where you think, “Man, that is a good student section?”

Rancho Rooters: I really like going against Los Osos anytime. They always show out and it’s fun to go against them.
