SoCal Student Section of the Week (02/23/19): Bishop Montgomery Swaglet

What is a better way to end the 2018-2019 SoCal Student Section of the week honors?

Have one of the best student section year after year to win it and close this out.

Well scripted guys!

With the CIF Championships on the line, the remaining student sections had to go the extra mile to give their team the extra boost.

Some won, some lost, some sang the blues…oh wait that’s a song by Journey, called Don’t Stop Believing, but some teams and their student sections didn’t stop believing and it showed!

Let’s see our final finalists and name our final SoCal Student Section of the Week winner for 2018-19!

Chino Hills Dawgpound has had the privilege to have a dynasty on their hands the last several years. From the Ball Era to the Big O Era, the Dawgpound has enjoyed the moment!

The Dawgpound came back to a CIF-SS Final to watch Chino Hills, ranked No. 17 in SoCal and No. 7 in the Inland Empire, this time in the Division 1 Final against Santa Margarita of Rancho Santa Margarita, ranked No. 10 in SoCal and No. 2 in Orange County.

Despite the tough 62-61 overtime loss, the Dawgpound came rowdy and prepared for the Eagles.

The Dawgpound has been one of the best student section in the IE and it has showed. Like basketball team, like student section.

Another student section battled in the stands for a CIF-SS Division 4AA title game and a league rival.

For the third time this season, Fairmont Prep of Anaheim, No. 7 in the OC, faced Pacifica Christian of Newport Beach, No. 10 in the OC, for the third time this season.

This San Joaquin League battle was as close the other two previous matchups, which went to overtime, both being victories for Fairmont Prep.

Was third time’s a charm for Pacifica Christian? Maybe if their student section went wild over the Fairmont Prep Loud Crowd.

These two up and coming student sections battled once again, but the Loud Crowd has made more of an improvement, mainly with their social media game.

The Loud Crowd brought their A game and so did the Huskies in their 52-49 victory to take the CIF-SS title.

Expect the Loud Crowd to improve, just like their young basketball team.

Also, both teams met a fourth time in the second round of the CIF SoCal Division III Regionals.

For the third or fourth time, the Torrey Pines Chaos made it to the finalists round for Student Section of the Week. They won the Susan Lucci Award for most nominations without taking the weekly title.

Anyway, The Chaos showed up for another CIF-San Diego Section Open Division Finals as Torrey Pines of San Diego, ranked No. 7 in SoCal and No. 1 in San Diego, took on Foothills Christian of El Cajon, ranked No. 18 in SoCal and No. 2 in San Diego.

The Falcons took a close 51-47 victory over Foothills Christian and The Chaos enjoyed it. The Chaos went wild and outnumbered the Knights student section.

One of the best student sections in San Diego, in the stadium or in the gym.

In the end, the Bishop Montgomery Swaglet of Torrance came in for another Southern Section Open Division final and once again they rocked it. They had to face the Sierra Canyon student section. It was a good battle, but the Swaglet came alive.

Bishop Montgomery, ranked No. 4 in SoCal and No. 3 in Los Angeles, battled with Sierra Canyon of Chatsworth, ranked No. 1 in LA and No. 1 in SoCal, but the Trailblazers got the best out of Bishop Montgomery with a 64-57 victory.

The Swaglet has been a dynasty of a student section and it took some time, but they finally took the title as the SoCal Student Section of the Week.

We spoke with the co-Presidents of the Bishop Montgomery LetterMen Club Madi Hall and Thomas Van Schoor on what it took to take the final weekly title.

You guys are the So Cal Student Section of the week, beating out the Torrey Pines Chaos, Fairmont Prep Loud Crowd and Chino Hills Dawgpound. What did it take to stand out as one of the best in Southern California?

Swaglet: Because of the success of our basketball team, our student section has grown each year and gets stronger and stronger.

What is your most memorable game you have ever attended as a member of the student section?

Swaglet: Our favorite game that we ever attended as members of the student section was going to Sacramento for the state championship against Wood Creek, our sophomore year. This is where we went all in to be a part of the student section: travel, theme, cheering, and the win! It was awesome! We were a small but mighty sounding group who cheered louder than the opposing cheering section who took up the entire opposite side. The guys came out hard and fast and our cheer game was strong and on point.

The Swaglet is considered one of the best Student Section in the state during basketball season year after year. What has been your recipe?

Swaglet: We rally behind our basketball team each and every year because they acknowledge us and thank us for being the 6th man. It’s become tradition and a fun way to demonstrate the caring community and our knight pride.

Favorite theme?

Swaglet: Camouflage has to be our favorite theme. It really united us together for a common cause. We played and beat Mater Dei at the Honda Center. We were committed 100% to the basketball team and the game!

Favorite chant?

Swaglet: I Believe that WE will WIN!

What’s your least favorite chant that you hear from the other side of the stadium/gym?

Swaglet: We can’t hear you!

Outside of you guys, is there one student section that you have seen or heard about where you think, “Man, that is a good student section?”

Swaglet: Servite’s Asylum is the only student section that we know of that is as committed as we are, but we take pride in being the BEST!
