Manny’s Football Picks: Week Pre-Zero (08/15/19)

Aside from being the official source for Student Sections in Southern California, we also follow football.

Last season, we picked 20 of the best games in Southern California from Week 00 to the CIF State Finals.

Granted, Week 00 only consist of 2-3 games, but I don’t cheat the student section viewers on this page.

Last season, yours truly went 234-91-2. Not bad, right?

The goal this year is to have fans partake in this. So far we have not met that goal, but maybe soon we will have a fan put their picks here.

Four SoCal teams take the field this weekend. Let’s see if I can get off on the right foot. Here are my picks;

Los Angeles Games of the Week

Jordan of Sandy, UT at Alemany of Mission Hills, Friday, 7pm

Manny’s Pick: Alemany

This Warriors squad will be depending on the young returning squad this season. QB Miller Moss will be going to WR Kevin Green Jr., both sophomores. The Jordan secondary will have a tough assignment. Alemany start the season with a win.

Pasadena vs. St. Genevieve of Panorama City at Los Angeles Valley College of Van Nuys, Friday, 7pm

Manny’s Pick: Pasadena

The Bulldogs will be replacing some key players on both sides, but they will look to their younger guns, including two sophomores with Mekhi Fox running or catching the ball and LB Ahmad Jolly being the leading returning tackler. QB Danny Rodriguez is back for his junior year and he can run the ball for St. Genevieve. I’m going with the sophomore duo, Pasadena gets the season opener win.

Orange County Game of the Week

Baldwin of Wailuku, Hawaii vs. Edison of Huntington Beach at War Memorial Stadium of Wailuku, Hawaii, Friday, 6pm

Manny’s Pick: Edison

Edison, as always, will head to Hawaii to kick off the 2019. RB/LB Mike Walters is the returning tackles and rushing yards leader for the Chargers. Add that with WR Cole Koffler, who is also the leader of the Edison MESS, who will get the ball from junior QB duo Braeden Boyles and Jacob Hanlon. The Chargers leave the beaches of Hawaii with a win as they head back home…to Huntington Beach. Wide range Edison, wide range.
