The latest news for the NorthWest Region Student Section Report

  2025 WASHINGTON FALL TOP 40 STUDENT SECTION PRESEASON RANKINGSSeptember 1, 2025

  In 2015, yours truly began covering Student Sections in Orange County, California. We expanded to Southern California in 2017 and in 2021, we added four more states and added 15 more states. We went to 40 states two years ago.

  We went to all 50 states in winter of 2023 and now we add our friends from the North in Canada on top of dividing Texas into two regions, similar to what we did with California. No one has ever done that before…until now!

  This is still a one-man operation for the most part, but we have some help with some partners on Instagram like good friends at OC Student Sections and Stadium Geeks with help from Maryland Student Section Rater, NorCal Student Sections and many more.

  This year we plan to get several “barstool” pages that showcase Student Sections in their states. Some of those pages were very helpful last year as we get more accurate with our rankings.

  I know that Student Sections have a lot of work to do to get the students to the games to cheer on their classmates and go along with the theme and make sure they don’t cause trouble. These student sections deserve recognition.

  This past season, we several more Student Sections, including some big powerhouse ones that not only will be a top dawg in their state, but will be a big player in the National side!

  We will kick off the Student Section season with Preseason Football Student Section Rankings. REMEMBER, this is a PREVIEW. It is merely a prediction. The real rankings come out in November or December. 

  If you feel your student section isn’t ranked high enough or not ranked at all, let us know and we’ll keep a close eye on them.

  Every week, we will also have Student Section of the Week for each state. Once you win Student Section of the Week, you can’t win it again, but you still have to battle for the top spot in your state and perhaps the Nation as we will also name a Football Student Section National Champion. 

  We continue with the 2025 Fall Student Section Season with a preview of Washington.

  This state is above average compared to other states. It’s not a difficult one to research thanks for several great Student Sections in Washington, but I felt at this point this would be a loaded state full of great school spirit. Hopefully that becomes the case in 2025.

  Last Football season, we had the Kamiakin as the top Football Student Section in Washington. This was a Student Section we first discovered several years ago, but we just didn’t have enough to showcase them at the top…until last year. They were fantastic and we hope it remains the same as they look to repeat.

  In each state, we will name one student section to look out for. A student section that while they aren’t ranked super high or weren’t ranked high last year, they’re a Student Section to lookout for and for Washington, it’s Jesuit Gizzard. Jesuit is a solid Student Section, but can be a bit quiet on Instagram (compared to a couple years ago). When we see their Student Section on Instagram, it’s amazing and I know they want the top spot. If they promote their Student Section like they used awhile back, they will take the number one spot in 2025.

  

  Will the Gizzard join the party or will the Bear Naish continue their Student Section State Titles in The Bayou? Let’s find out.

  2025 WASHINGTON FALL TOP 40 STUDENT SECTION PRESEASON RANKINGS

  1. Glacier Peak (2024 Rank: 3)

  I’m basing this on how fantastic this Student Section was in the Winter as they took the top spot in the rankings. Last Fall, they didn’t share their Student Section as much on Instagram compared from the Winter. If they did what they did during basketball season, Glacier Peak will be at the top for the Fall this time around.

  I know that Student Sections have a lot of work to do to get the students to the games to cheer on their classmates and go along with the theme and make sure they don’t cause trouble. These student sections deserve recognition.

  This past season, we several more Student Sections, including some big powerhouse ones that not only will be a top dawg in their state, but will be a big player in the National side!

  This is another state that super deep with incredible Student Sections. A lot of fantastic Student Sections here that are around the Top 25 that would be contenders for number one in several states. This past year we discovered some more Student Sections and we’re so excited to see if we’ll discover some more.

  Last Football season, we had the Lake Oswego Laker Navy as the top Football Student Section in Oregon. We know that this is a legit Student Section, but we saw them in-person at a road game and they rocked it. The chances of us seeing them in-person two years in a row are slim. What could help them repeat at number one is showing off their Student Section on Instagram on a consistent basis. Word of mouth won’t do it in this state.

  In each state, we will name one student section to look out for. A student section that while they aren’t ranked super high or weren’t ranked high last year, they’re a Student Section to lookout for and for Oregon, it’s Lakeridge. A smaller Student Section compared to some of the big powers, but they have a solid football team and that can attract more students to the games. We’ve covered Lakeridge Student Section in the past and we know they can get rowdy.

  1. Westview Cat Crew (2024 Rank: 13)

  This is a solid Student Section, but they’re more on the basketball side. They’ve been consistently crazy in the stands and run a fantastic social media game and we hope they show off in the Fall just as much as they do in the Winter. They love to show off their Student Section on Instagram. I expect the Student Section to go nuts this Fall!

  NorCal is the reason why we expanded outside of Southern California thanks to the Turlock Dogpound. There’s alot of great school spirit in upper California. There is also some schools that don’t get as much love as other NorCal Student Sections and our goal is to give them the love they deserve. We have definitely found even more NorCal schools, two of them making big moves in last years rankings. This is a list that is getting tougher and tougher every year to make when you try to add everyone, but can’t. So many schools with great school spirit up north!

  What also helps is that we get the help from NorCal Student Sections. They do terrific work in highlighting the best of the best Student Section in NorCal. Give them a follow on Instagram (@NorCalStudentSections on Instagram).

  Last Football season, we had the De La Salle 12th Man as the top Football Student Section in Northern California. The 12th Man was solid in the stands and on Instagram and it got them the top ranking in NorCal! The 12th Man got more than that after battling in the voting bracket and taking home the 2024 Fall Student Section National Championship title! The 12th Man will definitely be ready to battle for a repeat and know that they have some company to take them down. We are trying to plan a trip to checkout the 12th Man in late September. Hopefully we’ll see them!

  

  In each state, we will name one student section to look out for. A student section that while they aren’t ranked super high or weren’t ranked high last year, they’re a Student Section to lookout for and for Northern California, it’s the Serra Jungle. The Jungle rarely gets talked about, but that should change with the discovery of their Student Section page on Instagram. Well, we think because it seems they are a basketball only Student Section because that is all we see. If they post the same amount as they did during the Winter, then Serra will be up there with some of the top dawgs in NorCal.

  

  Will the Jungle break into the top of the rankings or will the 12th Man keep their NorCal and National Title? Let’s find out.

  2025 NORTHERN CALIFORNIA FALL TOP 40 STUDENT SECTION PRESEASON RANKINGS

  1. Dublin (2024 Rank: NR)

  Dublin took notice of the hype we gave De La Salle and wanted in on this and they took advantage of it in the winter as the best Student Section of the Winter Season, but they want more and based off the past photos, they look like a solid Fall Student Section as well. What I also like about Dublin is, Game respect Game. They have shown love for Student Sections like De La Salle and have gotten that in return. Respect. If Dublin shows off their Student Section on social media like they have in the past, they will remain number one in NorCal and perhaps do what De La Salle did and take home a National Ship!

  This state has some pretty good Student Sections. The rankings used to be top heavy, but we discovered a Student Section last year and I feel we may have found a Student Section power in this state, but we have some solid Student Section that will make a strong case for the top spot.

  Last Football season, we had the Rocky Mountain Grizz Nation as the top Football Student Section in Idaho. Grizz Nation promoted their Student Section on social media better than anyone else last season in this state. Rinse and repeat in 2025 if Grizz Nation wants to repeat.

  In each state, we will name one student section to look out for. A student section that while they aren’t ranked super high or weren’t ranked high last year, they’re a Student Section to lookout for and for Idaho, it’s Boise. This Student Section jump up the rankings big time and they look like an entertaining Student Section. If they show off their Student Section consistently on Instagram, they’ll continue to move up and perhaps take the top spot. It worked for the defending state champs!

  2025 IDAHO FALL TOP 30 STUDENT SECTION PRESEASON RANKINGS

  1. Rocky Mountain Grizz Nation (2024 Rank: 1)

  Grizz Nation showed off their Student Section more than anyone in the state and if the new leaders follow the script, we can expect a repeat, but there’s a few Student Sections out there that will battle for the top spot. It will be a fun one, but this one is Rocky Mountain to lose.

  This is the toughest state to figure out. For awhile, it was very rare to see a photo of a Student Section in Alaska, but we noticed one Student Section showing off their crazy and fun Student Section. We expect no different from them, but we also hope we find more great Student Sections in Alaska.

  Last Football season, we had Service as the top Football Student Section in Alaska. We finally saw a Student Section in Alaska and they weren’t that bad! Service had great leaders in the stand and despite the dark and cold weather, it didn’t stop them from cheering. We hope to see more of that in 2025.

  In each state, we will name one student section to look out for. A student section that while they aren’t ranked super high, they’re a Student Section to lookout for and for Alaska, it’s Soldotna. In past seasons, Soldotna would promote their Student Section themes, which makes me think they have a Student Section. Only one way to find out. If they do what Service did, then we have ourselves a battle for the top spot in Alaska.

  2025 ALASKA FALL TOP 15 STUDENT SECTION PRESEASON RANKINGS

  1. Service (2024 Rank: 1)

  This is one of the first Student Sections in Alaska that showed off their Student Section on Instagram and they did it more than once. We hope to see more of this from Service as they were a fun group based off the video. I can expect a couple Student Sections to show off their school spirit, but Service looked like they showed off the crazy parts which gets them the top nod. I expect a repeat!

Luckily for them, I was in the area to give a local Student Section their Football Student Section National Championship Banner and had time to check them out in-person. They weren’t lying.   The time has come to start ranking 50 states that we covered this football season. 

  To say I’m overwhelmed with the work that comes along with this is a huge huge understatement.

  We had 10 Student Section of the Week winners in Washington and that helped us determine who had the best Student Section and which ones wanted it more.

  Just showing up in large crowds isn’t enough. It might fool other outlets that don’t cover Student Sections, but not us. We have to know how bad you want it and marketing is key. 

  You will see top-notch Student Sections miss out at the top spot, but we kept saying it over and over and over again, in order to be considered number one, you have to win the Student Section of the Week title. Otherwise, what is the point of having that contest?!

  I know Student Sections complain but remember it’s thousands of Student Sections and only me. Social media is your friend if used correctly.

  A Student Section that doesn’t post videos or photos of there Student Section on a consistent basis is like a tree falling with no one around. It doesn’t make any noise.

  This is our fourth year covering Football Student Sections in Washington. We had Bothell Blue Train win it in 2021, Eastlake Red Sea in 2022 and Mount Si Red Sea in 2023.

  This is a state is packed with insane Student Sections! You’ll see in this years rankings that it has changed. Perhaps we have some new social media powers in Washington. You market your Student Section and show it off on Instagram, you will get rewarded.

  We will have 4 Student Sections in Washington that will be voting in the Student Section playoffs that will begin soon.

  So, let’s see who made the list and who is the best in the Evergreen State.

  Kamiakin didn’t post much in the past, but they doubled up on the marketing this year and it paid off as they rocked the stands this fall. One of bigger Student Sections in Washington. We’ll see if Run Kano can make some noise when they vote in the National Football Student Section playoffs, but for now, they’re the 2024 Washington Football Student Section of the Year!

  When we started covering Student Sections in 2015, it began with only Orange County, California. We expanded in 2017 to Southern California and it was the leaders of the 2020 Turlock Dogpound that asked us when we will extend out coverage, we went to six states and then 20 states, then 40 states and now all 50 states. We appreciate the Dogpound for the encouragement.

  We will have 5 Student Sections in Northern California that will be voting in the Student Section playoffs that will begin soon.

  De La Salle is always known for its football. Everyone knows it, but it might be time to give the 12th Man some credit because they crushed it this fall! They packed the stands and were savages in the stands! Social media marketing was on point. They loved showing off their Student Section on Instagram. We’ll see how they’ll fare in the National Student Section playoffs that start in a few days, but for now, they’re the 2024 Northern California Football Student Section Champions!

  2024 OREGON FINAL TOP 40 FOOTBALL STUDENT SECTION RANKINGSNovember 22, 2024

  The time has come to start ranking 50 states that we covered this football season. 

  To say I’m overwhelmed with the work that comes along with this is a huge huge understatement.

  We had 10 Student Section of the Week winners in Oregon and that helped us determine who had the best Student Section and which ones wanted it more.

  Just showing up in large crowds isn’t enough. It might fool other outlets that don’t cover Student Sections, but not us. We have to know how bad you want it and marketing is key. 

  You will see top-notch Student Sections miss out at the top spot, but we kept saying it over and over and over again, in order to be considered number one, you have to win the Student Section of the Week title. Otherwise, what is the point of having that contest?!

  I know Student Sections complain but remember it’s thousands of Student Sections and only me. Social media is your friend if used correctly.

  A Student Section that doesn’t post videos or photos of there Student Section on a consistent basis is like a tree falling with no one around. It doesn’t make any noise.

  This is our fourth year covering Football Student Sections in Oregon. We had Beaverton win it in 2021, Summit in 2022 and West Linn in 2023.

  This is a state is packed with insane Student Sections! We had the honor of going to Oregon to checkout a Student Section and we will return soon. It helps that I have family and friends around the Portland area.

  We will have 5 Student Sections in Oregon that will be voting in the Student Section playoffs that will begin soon.

  So, let’s see who made the list and who is the best in the Beaver State.

  2024 OREGON FINAL TOP 40 FOOTBALL STUDENT SECTION RANKINGS

  1. Lake Oswego Laker Army (2023 Rank: 26)

  The Laker Army social media game went nuts this fall and it definitely caught my attention. They pack and I mean packed the stands and had themselves a party while also cheering on their team. If they get a chance to rub it in your face when your team makes a mistake, Laker Army will do it. What a year! We’ll see how they’ll fare in the National Student Section playoffs that start in a few days, but one thing is certain, Lake Oswego Laker Army is your 2024 Oregon Football Student Section of the Year!

  2. West Linn (2023 Rank: 1)

  I got the chance to see West Linn in person and I wasn’t disappointed. They are a fun one to watch and are very loud! We’ll see how they’ll fare in the National Student Section playoffs that start in a few days.

  3. Ida B. Wells (2023 Rank: 6)

  This Student Section is lit despite how odd it is for me to say that word, but it’s true. One of the larger Student Sections in the state, but they also bring the noise and love to rattle anyone in their way! We’ll see how they’ll fare in the National Student Section playoffs that start in a few days.

  This is a state that isn’t crazy deep with Student Sections, but you will see some fantastic Student Sections here. Idaho has the potential to be one of the best states for school spirit.

  We will have 3 Student Sections in Idaho that will be voting in the Student Section playoffs that will begin soon.

  So, let’s see who made the list and who is the best in the Gem State.

  2024 IDAHO FINAL TOP 30 FOOTBALL STUDENT SECTION RANKINGS

  1. Rocky Mountain Grizz Nation (2023 Rank: 19)

  Social Media is your friend if done right and Grizz Nation worked the marketing to a T! This may not be a super large Student Section, but they promoted their school spirit on a weekly basis. Thet wanted to show off the Student Section and that’s what this Student Section competition is all about. Who ever is in charge of their social media account, you did this! On top of that, this is a fantastic Student Section! We’ll see how far they will go when they vote in the National Student Section playoffs on Monday, but for now, they’re the 2024 Idaho Football Student Section of the Year!

  2. Meridan Tribe (2023 Rank: 14)

  The Tribe got better with the social media promotion and it got them a Top 5 finish. The Tribe had an all-around improvement and now they’ll be ready to vote in the National Student Section playoffs on Monday!

  The Rowdies is such a fitting name for this Student Section. Like many Student Sections across the country, they went bananas. We’ll see how they fare in the National Student Section playoffs on Monday!
